JAMES HARDEN’S BAKER
This shop was on the site now occupied by the Newsagency, Cnr Main & Lucas Streets. Note the name on the veranda English one side German the other, also the bread delivery, with several loaves on a wooden plate on the ground.

In the 1860’s Mr Harden enlarged the building including a second story, which then became the lord Palmerston Hotel. The hotel lost it’s licence in 1920 and then became The Kapunda Coffee Palace. Later it became a garage, run by Mr Fahlbusch followed by the Colmer brothers. The building was demolished in the 1960’s. The mural now in progress on the side of the building depicts the Lord Palmerston Hotel.
