Kapunda Mine

Kapunda Mine Chimney
The oldest metal mine in Australia made Kapunda the largest town outside Adelaide in the 1840’s  and actually saved the State of South Australia from financial ruin.

All of the original buildings except the chimney have gone, and many of the shafts have been filled in when the operation changed to open-cut, but this is still an interesting walk around the site, with regular information boards posted.

After rains, the open cut areas fill with water, tainted green from the copper in the ground.
